African Cats

On Friday, April 29, 2011 we went to see African Cats. We absolutely loved it! We noticed that even though it is a documentary, it follows a typical story structure. It actually has two story lines for each of the African Cats (lions & cheetahs) featured in the film! Click the links below to view our summaries of the film as well as our opinions.

Tiger Cubs' Winter Concert

2008 - 2009

CRRA

In the spring, the Connecticut Resources Recovery Authority (CRRA) came to visit at our school. The 3rd Graders had the opportunity to participate in a Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, Rethink Activity. While playing they learned what materials can be recycled, why they can be recycled, & what the materials are made of.

A few weeks later, we went to the Recycling Center where we were able to see the workers sorting & sifting through all of the recyclables.

The Tale of Despereaux

The 3rd & 4th grade read aloud The Tale of Despereaux. While reading, we visualized, inferred, synthesized, & connected. After completing the book we viewed the movie.

To the right is some of our thinking on the book. We gave Despereaux advice, connected character traits to other media, & even attempted a look at the symbolism of light & darkness. If you get the chance to read this book, go for it!

2009 Concerts

We put on a winter concert for our friends & family in December. We sang a variety of holiday songs. In June we put on a concert to highlight the composers! Tchaikovsky was our "man of the hour"...
