The Class of 2012

We worked really hard towards our Hopes and Dreams this year!  Below are some highlights of what we experienced in the classroom.

Field Trips
Authors' Day
Poetry Anthology

Narrative Prompt Writing

Writing to a prompt can be tricky.  We need to use as much as we can remember about the writing process in a limited amount of time.  It can be helpful to know how to budget our time during a Writing Prompt.

Samples of our writing:
Mariah     Super Hero's     Animal Escape     Magic Pet     Linda     Light's Out!     The Zoo     Animal Escape     Bad Dog     Time to Fight!     Family Member

Multiplication & Division

There are a variety of strategies that help us multiply and divide.  We can use them when learning specific facts or to solve complex problems.  Some strategies include:
  • equal groups
  • repeated addition
  • arrays
  • skip counting
Check out the multiplication stories we made with Talking Tom the Cat!

Writers Research

_We wrote brief reports about the Rain Forest from the note-facts we collected. Our Rain Forest Olympics video & DVD Covers below are examples of our writing!

Ecosystems & Adaptations

What is an ecosystem and how do plants and animals survive in their ecosystems?  Here are a few pictures and videos to see how we are discovering the answer to those questions!

Digraphs are Special Sounds

Digraphs are two consonants that when put together they make a new sound.  They look and sound like ch, sh, wh, th, ng, ph, ck.  We are playing around with words to read and write digraphs fluently.  A few have made their way to our Word Wall.  We recorded songs about digraphs, too!
Gunnar                 Rayshawn                         Mariam
Brooke                  Alex                                 Miguel
Lindsay                 Jaeden                              Elijah
Tionna

Goodreads

We use Goodreads to keep track of the books we are reading, want to read, and have read.  We write brief book reviews and engage in Digital Book Talks!

Good Writing

We learned so many things about the writing process!  Some of us published with Little Bird Tales and others with Goodreads.

Our Town, Our Community

What is a town?  What can we learn about a town from maps?  How are towns organized to meet the needs of their citizens?  All questions that help us understand the place we live better!  Read more...

Measure This & That From Here to There

What are they good for?  We are finding different ways to measure: to the nearest inch, 1/2 inch, and 1/4 inch.  This will help us as we learn to better read maps, too.  Read more...

Metacognition

Reading IS Thinking!  When we read we try to make sure that we are always engaged in REAL reading.  We make reading salads, let our brains collide with books, and allow books to get into our heads.  Read more...
