Did you hear that?  Probably not if it's a silent letter!  Some words have letters whose job it is to be silent.  Some combinations are sc, mb, gu, kn, wr,

                                        Picture
Writing to a prompt can be tricky.  We need to use as much as we can remember about the writing process in a limited amount of time.  It can be helpful to know how to budget our time during a Writing Prompt.

Samples of our writing are coming soon!

                                        Multiplication & Division

                                        Picture
There are a variety of strategies that help us multiply and divide.  We can use them when learning specific facts or to solve complex problems.  Some strategies include:
                                        • equal groups
                                        • repeated addition
                                        • arrays
                                        • skip counting

Check out the multiplication stories we made with Talking Tom the Cat!

_We are the midst of a quick unit about writing from the heart.  We created a heart map and our using those things most important to us to collect entries.  Check back to see the process!

                                        Diphthongs

We are exploring diphthongs right now!  Our word wall is beginning to explode with gluey-glittery diphthongs!

_We are in the midst of learning how to add & subtract 2- and 3-digit numbers with regrouping.  After reading Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday we realized how important it is for us to add and subtract well.  We don't want to end up like Alexander...spending our money without any idea of how much we have left!

                                        Ecosystems & Adaptations

What is an ecosystem and how do plants and animals survive in their ecosystems?  Here are a few pictures and videos to see how we are discovering the answer to those questions!

_Readers picture what the characters are doing so that can create a movie in their head.  But they also use Non Fiction text features and details to visualize what the topic is like in real life.

                                        Digraphs are Special Sounds

Digraphs are two consonants that when put together they make a new sound.  They look and sound like ch, sh, wh, th, ng, ph, ck.  We are playing around with words to read and write digraphs fluently.  A few have made their way to our Word Wall.
We recorded songs about digraphs, too!

_Place value concepts like reading & writing numbers in the 100's & 1,00's, identifying the value of a number in a place (7 in the tens is worth 70), helped us round to the nearest 10 and 100!  Then we used our new understanding to solve complex problems.  Our process is to the right.

                                        Goodreads

We use Goodreads to keep track of the books we are reading, want to read, and have read.  We write brief book reviews and engage in Digital Book Talks!
